I am very behind with Substack, but I wanted to say how much I liked this post. A village is a nice metaphor because, at least in my case, my good friends don't know each other but, like a group of people living in a village, could come together and help me - and like each other at the same time.

It's probably too late for anyone to notice this comment, but I did write not too long ago about making new friends, including Substack ones, and it is one of my most-read posts.

Cathy, it's an honor to be part of your village! Your voice is authentic and wise, and you have a beautiful way of bringing us all back to truth. 🌟

Thank you, Marika. Wow, thank you for your encouragement.

"When you don't know how to help, you make soup." - Oooohh - so good Cathy.

Indeed, villages are built long before they're needed and by cultivating a village, love compounds over time. Thank you for helping me to see this. 🙏

You are so welcome. Thank you for reading.

Supporting each other. What a wonderful phrase. A single arrow can be broken, but three together are unbreakable. This is a historical saying attributed to Mori Motonari, a warlord from Japan's Sengoku period. It's a story about how sons and siblings should work together to overcome difficulties, and it really does show how wonderful it is for everyone to support each other and work hard together.

Three together are unbreakable, I love that! So true.

Thank you for the reminder of the importance of having a village and for including me in yours. He is a link to an older post, but since my son is home from college, cooking, packing his own lunch and heading off to work at 6:30am, I️ feel it is fitting ☺️

Village Day....I do rather like the sound of this. It is a strange experience to read about one, Cathy Jacob, who takes seriously the single biggest indicator of what helps us thrive better in a difficult world, warm, social relationships, a bit, or a lot, more seriously than I do. I know the real thing when I see and feel it. Meaning, even a lone wolf out on his own likes to sit by the fire and even needs a pack to survive in the coldest of winters. And boy does your village baker sound like she makes some mean biscuits :)

And you are a wise soul to take a bit of break along the way :)

Also, thank you for sharing the work of others you admire and your more than generous offer. I like to find other writers I would never have run across in my outside life. I might be the first to take you up on it. It's a bit long but it's about how to view our longing through a lens of aliveness. What I like, about your village collaboration....not in my article....is how the village itself can help us feel more alive as well. So thank you!

Yes. Soup works. I was in hospital in Feb , I had daily check-ins and when home received several soup offerings. So thankful for my village too.

Cathy Jacob's avatar

Sorry to hear that, Edna. Are you okay now?

Edna Revels's avatar

Yes, thanks , Cathy. Still watching my diet closely ( low fat and sugar). Don’t want that again. (pancreatitis ).

Cathy Jacob's avatar

Yikes! So glad you are doing better.

Cathy! Thank you so much for this lovely gift. Can you believe it’s already been 5 years since we built that website? Being a part of The Slow Sip since the beginning has been a huge privilege. I’m delighted to find so many amazing writers on this platform and learn so much 🩷

Cathy Jacob's avatar

My pleasure, Krista. Delighted you have ventured over here and are sharing your. Experience and your approach on this platform. I have benefited a great deal from your guidance over the years as have many others.

Taking cue from you on your summer breaks......I am trying to slow down too. I think it may take me a few summers to ease into slowing down. Hope you are planning some exciting (to you) adventures this summer.

Cathy Jacob's avatar

Actually planning to work on the book this summer as my collarbone is apparently going to interfere with my outdoor pursuits a fair bit. But there will be some time for some grandkid fun and enjoying the sunshine in other ways. I can still walk in the woods, so that’s something.😉 Enjoy your summer.

I just love "your" village and so pleased to have been a part of it. Thank you Cathy for inviting me in. And thank you for the introductions to the "newer" writers. I have been struggling recently with my writing and I can use all the support and inspiration. Summer is here and I tend to slow down with my writing, too. But that does not mean my mind is not simmering with all kinds of creative ideas and places to visit and take photos. I just need to remember those ideas . I try to write down my thoughts as soon as possible before another thing or things pops into my "pea" brain and takes it over.

Have a great summer Cathy.

What a beautiful post. Maybe it's my age, but I feel like there are so many friends going through some tough stuff.

But the heart-warming aspect is how quickly (and authentically) everyone jumps into "soup action". I experienced multiple loss a few years ago and was amazed by people mobilizing to help me out, ask what I needed or how I was doing. It's a wonderful reminder that there is still good in the world and humanity alive and well in our little villages.

Cathy Jacob's avatar

Thank you, Gina. I am noticing the same thing. We need to hold each other up. So glad to be able to share a village with you.❤️

Wow....In this article, you have clarified a very subtle nuance for me that I have been working with in my own life. Besides stating the obvious for me, that I have privileged survival through work over just about everything else - you very simply drew out the quality over quantity and what it means to really BE somewhere and to BE with someone.

Cathy Jacob's avatar

Thank you, Kelcy, for this insight. This is so true! The quality of being present, both tending and attending to each other is what made this experience so powerful.
